During the hottest months of the year, it is common for air conditioning units to be working overtime. Unfortunately, this can also cause some issues if they are not properly maintained, and can even lead to breakdowns. Rather than having to call a busy air conditioning repair service, it’s better to be able to make any small repairs or fixes yourself if possible.

General Inspection

  1. The first thing you should do is check that your thermostat is set to the wanted temperature and that the “fan” option is also turned on. Occasionally, smart thermostats can override this option if they are set for specific schedules, so you can try to reset your system to solve this problem.
  1. Go to your AC unit outside and make sure there are no leaves or debris blocking the fans. After that, make sure there are not odd sounds like rattles or grinding from the unit. If you do hear those sounds, you will likely need to contact a professional as there may be a fan that is broken or the motor itself is having issues.
  2. Next, make sure there is warm air coming out of the top of it where the fan blows the air up.
  3. If the cool air is still not reaching the inside of the house, check to make sure all of the vents are unobstructed by furniture, curtains, blankets, or anything else that could potentially block the airflow.

If you are still experiencing issues, try this solution next.

Reset the thermostat

If your thermostat has power going to it and is responsive, try to reset it from the settings. If you are unsure how to do this, you can look at the user manual for the thermostat that should have been included when it was installed. If you don’t have the user manual, you can simply look up the model of your thermostat online and find it there. If resetting the thermostat solves the issue, then the problem was likely a simple technological malfunction.
